This literature review was written as part of a larger research proposal for a prospective study examining the effectiveness of a relaxation technique sleep intervention, progressive muscle relaxation, compared to the effectiveness of general sleep hygiene interventions in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). From the literature, we gathered how fatigue resulting from COPD negatively impacts daily occupations and overall quality of life as well as the current sleep interventions for reducing fatigue. As we identified gaps in the literature, we hope further research is conducted on this topic to provide a greater understanding of which sleep interventions work best for adults with COPD. Although this paper was tedious to perfect, the research, writing, and review process was enjoyable to complete with Megan as we have a shared interest in the population, diagnosis, and interventions. |
Megan and Hannah built on their clinical knowledge to write a literature review of a lesser-known occupational therapy intervention. In additional to excellent scholarly writing, their work demonstrates strong analysis and synthesis skills, and their ability to apply research to practice.

Students were asked to write about how the atomic age impacted pop culture. Sarah asked if it would be okay to write her assignment as a series of haiku. I was skeptical that she would be able to capture enough of the feeling of the era but she pulled it off and then some. The ending of the section of haiku about candy was phenomenal.

It is known that as a society, we are always looking for ways to improve academic performance. Ever since I was a young child I have always been physically active and have performed well academically. I started my research process for this paper by looking up ways to improve academic performance. When physical activity was one of the top results, it was a no brainer to study this concept in more depth. I was able to use my past experiences and relate them to my research, which made writing this paper a lot easier. After conducting all of the research and writing my paper, I thought that this would be something that could be beneficial for helping others who may be looking for a way to improve their academic performance if they are struggling. |
I selected this paper because Joan had an interesting take on a way to improve academic performance in students. She challenged herself in her writing and research because finding authoritative sources, particularly scholarly sources, proved difficult, but she worked diligently with Writing Specialists and librarians and made it happen.

As the title implies, this was a complicated and almost uncomfortable issue to write about. I had to reach into my own experiences in addition to the research I conducted, making this a very personal topic for me. That being said, I was forced to look beyond my personal opinions and ideas in order to find the root cause and subsequent consequences of the mechanisms of psychological control I described. Although it posed a challenge, I truly believe that the end result is something that has the potential to start a long overdue conversation between parents and their affected children. |
Teagan's essay cogently addresses the challenges today's young people face who wish to stay close to their parents but also resent the loss of privacy and independence that occurs when their well-intentioned parents seek to assure their safety and maintain connection through digital surveillance measures. Her essay carefully considers multiple perspectives, impressively incorporates both popular and scholarly resources, and eloquently makes her case in well-crafted prose. I was impressed by the sophistication of her argument and her authentic voice.

As a student of the future healthcare community, I often find myself inquiring about the rationale, efficiency, and delivery of our current medical practices here within the U.S. The topic of my paper, which involves the autonomy and equality of Nurse Practitioner and Physician's Assistant practice, is not only topical, but remains a gateway to future reasoning and probable systematic revision over populace crisis and adversity heretofore untapped. |
Tam-Lin's ENG112 research paper is well written, shows critical thinking, and is representative of a non-traditional student's maturity, curiosity, and consistent dedication to her academic progress.

When determining a topic for our research proposal, we wanted to step outside the box and determine a topic that would challenge us, yet provide us with valuable information on technology that is rapidly evolving in today’s medical world. We were able to learn so much more than we expected through this research process and were also able to determine how this information could be applied to practice. This research proposal gave us the opportunity to explore a topic that was new to both of us and left us with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the research process as it related to our topic of a brain-computer interface powered wheelchair. |
Jessie and Ryan’s literature review combines an excellent critique and synthesis of technical research with their underlying value for clients’ quality of life. This project demonstrates strong scholarly writing with a connection to an emerging area of OT intervention.

With a heart full of passion and hope, this paper became my main focus during the remote learning period of Spring 2020. My inspiration came from from the disappointment I felt when my candidate of choice, Bernie Sanders, lost Super Tuesday to Joe Biden by a long shot during the 2020 Democratic Primary. I wrote this paper to show people that progressive candidates have a shot at winning presidential elections if people put enough faith in them. I have hope for the future of the Democratic party, and I hope that this paper will instill those same feelings in others. |
I selected this paper because Mark chose an extremely complex subject and wrote about it eloquently and authoritatively. Our country is so politically polarized right now, and the upcoming election is so important. I felt that he as a college student is a voice that could interest students in the importance of voting.

The paper was a course reflection on everything I had learned and experienced during the writing class. The teacher was very nice and really wanted my classmates and me to get the most out of her teachings, and writing the paper was a good time for me to show gratitude for the experience. I spent a lot of time thinking about how the course had impacted me. I came to realize that the experiences in that class had a big impact on the improvement in my writing and I was very thankful. From there, I wrote in a manner that was sincere and natural to me. These are the times when my writings are the best. |
I nominated this paper because it shows the growth of the student, the power of the written word, and the acknowledgment of and potential for future growth.

While writing this paper, it was my goal to expose the many negative impacts that Medicaid eligibility requirements create for older adults. Medicaid eligibility requirements (financial) affect all socioeconomic demographics, and if writing about the challenges elicits a conversation around changing the way the system works then I have met my goal. These eligibility requirements will have an impact on everyone at some point whether rich or poor, and supporting a vulnerable population is something I will always stand for. |
Garrett produced an intense analysis of an incredibly complicated social policy. Garrett's work is very timely since aging and Medicaid utilization are at the forefront of policy debates. The paper is well-written and untangles complicated layers of the policy to demonstrate the real impact of the troubling aspects of the current policy.
